Fun Christmas Traditions

Where did this year go? I can't believe we are nearing the end of it already. If you've been reading my blog, you know this is a new season of life for me. I really want to make Christmas fun and memorable, without going over the top or over my budget!

I thought if you're in a new season of life also, maybe you could use some inspiration for fun ideas! Fortunately for me, I have always worked in Emergency Services so missing holidays is something I am used to, and I think that is making this Holiday season just a little easier. To me, it's not about a specific date on a calendar, but about memories we can create. Either way if you get to spend the holiday with your family or you have to make adjustments I hope you have a blessed and wonderful season.

Christmas Eve Service

This is one of my favorite traditions. We have a beautiful Methodist Church in the town we live in that has a beautiful service every Christmas Eve. At the end of the service everyone forms a circle around the auditorium, holds a candle and we sing Christmas hymns. I didn't grow up going to Christmas Eve service, but it is so magical and I love going whenever I have the opportunity.

Christmas Movies and Appetizers

This one also takes place on Christmas Eve for us. Our family is small, so cooking a big meal seams kind of silly. I use it as an excuse to eat junk food and binge watch our favorite Christmas flicks. This year I plan on making: grilled jalapeno poppers, little smokies, cheese curds and no bake cookies! Everyone's favorites. We will light the fireplace, settle in for movies, and grab snacks as we desire! Nothing better!

The Christmas Story in the Bible

It's really important we don't forget the true meaning of Christmas. The story is found in Luke 1 and 2 and is a great tradition to add into your time together!

The past few years have been rough on a lot of us and we are learning to prioritize differently. If this isn't already a Christmas tradition in your home, it's a great year to start.

A Christmas Cactus

Okay, so this is a new tradition for me that I came across while searching for gifts and I liked it. I went to our local greenhouse and got myself a Christmas Cactus. They bloom in the winter and are absolutely gorgeous. I liked the idea of getting one because they can live around 100 years, so it can be around to pass down to your children. Also, you can take the cuttings and gift them to others. It is literally the gift that keeps on giving!

I hope you got some ideas to have an amazing Holiday with whomever you get to spend it with! I know I am really looking forward to continue traditions we already had, as well as adding some new ones. Comment below some of your favorite traditions! Happy Holidays!
